The Importance of Iodine in Preventing Disease
Few people—including many doctors—understand the importance of iodine for several crucial aspects of health, including • Optimal thyroid function • Breast health • Cancer prevention • Prostate health • Preventing and overcoming obesity • Brain development and prevention of mental retardation in children • Immune system support • Brain health and prevention of Parkinson’s and other brain disorders
Most people do not get enough iodine, and even if they do, environ- mental factors prevent our bodies from using it, contributing to our current epidemics of hypothyroidism, obesity, fibrocystic breast disease, hormonally related cancers, developmental disabilities in children and many more preventable health concerns.
What Doctors Fail to Tell You About Iodine & Your Thyroid is your guide to strategies to get the iodine your body needs in its correct and more absorbable form to prevent thyroid disease.

"Excellent book, a quick read but very informative. This book has eight short chapters with good information in each, not one or two points repeated through the entire book. Chapters cover what iodine is and the forms of iodine the human body uses, levels of iodine Americans got and were recommended to get 100 years ago vs today, and vs what the Japanese and Okinawans get. He talks about bromine(blocks iodine receptors) being added to foods and how this is not labeled. Chapter 1 also discusses different ways to test for iodine levels in the body and talks about radioactive iodine. He also mentions studies that measured soil deficiency, the need for supplementation, and the need for 3 forms of iodine in supplements. The book contains good information on all diseases related to low iodine levels, including thyroid disorders, obesity and breast cancer. Chapter 8 talks about getting started: testing levels of iodine, supplementation and food sources of iodine in a list format. there are resources, websites and scientific references listed."

- Dr. Thompson has written a clear, concise book on the importance of iodine, not only for the thyroid, but for every cell in the body. He describes its important role in detoxifying halogens, especially bromine, and in the prevention of many "women's" issues related to breast, uterine, and ovarian health.
There is also reference to his own rigorously developed transmucosal bioidentical hormone replacement therapy that promises to revolutionize HRT for women of all ages, even pre-menopause.
This is a quick and easy read, and a great deal considering the value of the information presented.
Once again, a print copy would probably be perferable as there is a graphic that is apparently not expandable and a chart that is unreadable in the kindle format. - WhisperSynch add a whole new dimension to reading, or in my case, listening. You see, this book is also an audiobook (on Audible) and is how I originally purchased this book--wish now that I had bought the first cause when you do so Audible gives you a nice discount for buying both. Not the other way around though.
Right, I wanted the just to gather some specifics that the author was referring to--the names of several supplement that Dr Thompson recommends. By the way, I suggest that you also read his other book (The Calcium Lie II What Your Doctor Still Doesn't Know) as both offer important information about health--ah, your health. And when your 74-years old and still working 40-hours a week you'll know what I mean--ever so grateful that I'm still able. Oh, I'm a nurse practitioner and see inmates in the county jail, about 25 or so a day and for those patient's the are receptive I'll give them a handout with these two books listed at the top. For everyone else "Don't smoke, no alcohol, or drugs--legal or otherwise."
Bill B Iodinen . . ðŸœðŸ’ - WOW. I learned a LOT in this book. I've had trouble with false positives on mammograms, and VERY dense breast tissue. I took Dr. Thompson's advice on adding some iodine to my supplements, but I felt a little cold. So I cut the iodine pill down to about 1/4 of the dosage, and my breast tissue IMMEDIATELY changed. First normal mammogram in several years, wow.
- This book shines. It is most certainly one of the best books written on the subject of the absolute necessity of the importance of Iodine to the function of the Thyroid and the rest of the body as well. What sets this book apart is it's written for everyone to read.
- I found the information in this book to be very helpful. I have hypothyroidism. I was told by my holistic nurse practitioner that iodine deficiency was my main problem. I purchased this book so I could learn more about this. I was very pleased with the information. I was able to have the energy to get through the day and have better sleep through following the advice in this book.
- Dr. Thompson was very knowledgeable and informative on the topic of iodine and women's health. I had bought my copy at a health food store and read it. I plan to re-read book again and highlight it. I bought two copies one for my daughter and the other for a friend from Amazion. I was already taking an iodine supplement through my own doctor treating me for bio- identical hormone replacement therapy. Great book recommend it highly for women.
- One of the most important health books I have read. Iodine matters, my energy had improved by day 3 and my thyroid is headed into normal range. Startling and amazing since I have spent bundles of money trying to overcome fatigue. I'm working with Dr. Thompson now and pleased with my results but the iodine was really key for me.
