"I bought the book simply to learn more about trusts. I was starting with zero knowledge and was attracted to this one by the claim in the title that it would "demystify" them. It did that, and it was genuinely fun to read.
It's a quick, easy read and is very informative. It is very well organized and it kept my interest. I kept saying "I'll read one more page" and next thing I knew, I was to the end.
Before I read this, I would have been afraid to even talk to an attorney or trust officer about the matter. I wouldn't have known how to start the conversation, or even known what to ask for when making the appointment!
In this book, everything is put in proper context. The author even includes discussion of how living trusts relate to other products and services, such as wills.
I would eagerly recommend this publication to anyone. It should be read BEFORE a person is in the position of needing to set up a trust. This book even helps a person think through whether they need a living trust to begin with.
Since I have no training in trusts or personal experience on any side of a trust relationship, my opinion might not seem to mean much. However, for those same reasons I can testify as to the usefulness of this book to the layperson."

However, for those same reasons I can testify as to the usefulness of this book to the layperson. - I was looking for a good general book covering basic trusts that I could understand. Not only did I get this with this book, but more. The author covers trust information so that I could understand it, but also goes through various other planning techniques, discussing the pros and cons and how to use them. This book clarified some things in plain English that my attorney has been trying to get across in our planning meetings, and it didn't cost me $150 an hour!
This is not necessarily the book that will take you in depth and discuss the various types of trusts - this book emphasizes Living Trusts. But it is a great starting point and has some interesting "real life" stories.
I also enjoyed "20 Questions to Ask About Wills & Estates" by Robert Zafft and Gene Zafft, for wills and estate issues. Again, plain English and easy to understand.
