"The IT resume should have a different structure than most resumes, especially those who are seeking technical IT positions. This book provide a good guidance on how an effective IT resume should look like
For example, tecnical IT resumes should highlight the skills section and have it visible upfront. Given most resume have few seconds to make a positive impression, such small changes to the resume can be crucial.
The author also addresses the cover letters.
Negatives: The resume and cover letter examples provided in this book were good, but not quite excellent. Too many of the examples were full of filler-words with little substance. Much of author's resume examples ignore author's own resume suggestions such as highlighting skills AND accomplishments (not just description of one did). The author also doesn't quite get into developing the professional brand. Resume is a marketing tool, and one should 1)create a positive professional brand and have the resume 2)consistently advocate that professional brand as much as possible.
Overall, I think this would be a worthwhile book. But I also think it is lacking some pieces that would make it great."

Overall, I think this would be a worthwhile book. But I also think it is lacking some pieces that would make it great. - I purchased this book alongside "Ace the IT Interview" so i could land the job i have been trying to apply for. It has helped me to adjust my Resume toward several different applications and i am happy to say that i have been hired! The book goes into tremendous detail as to what words are acceptable and what sections go best with certain jobs. In the end i cannot recommend this book more highly. My only gripe is that it seems a tad bit short in some areas.
- Resumes change all the time and it is difficult to keep up with all the changes employers require. This is not a good guide for State job applications, which is a veryi specialized process. It has a lot of insightful ideas that are timeless and an excellent resource for the beginner.
- This is an excellent book for anyone in the IT industry. It is well written and to the point. Gives very practical advise and the example resumes are very helpful. I was anxious about re-writting my resume but after reading this book I am confident I can do a good job and know where to start and how to do it. Very cool!
- Ace the IT Resume does exactly what it sets out to do, provide knowledge and examples towards building a great IT resume. I got this book when I was getting no response to the numerous resumes I had submitted. After reading this book, and applying its lessons, I got hired into a great job with a great company. I also know what book I am picking up from my shelf if and when it comes time to dust off my resume again.
- I have not read the entire book but so far it has enlightened me on what I need to do. I am a recent graduate and do not have that much professional experience. This book informed me on what I can place in my resume with other work I have done on computers. I highly recommend the is book for the recent IT grad. It will also help those who have been in the field for awhile also.
- Creating a resume for the IT industry is different from other industries. This book starts with that premise and provides good solid information. Worth the price.
