If You Knew Her A Novel Emily Elgar 9780062694607 Books Reviews
- I really liked this book, even though it kind of made me mad and sad at the end. Lol
Alice works at St Catherine’s (or Kate’s as they call it) hospital on ward 9B, Which is the intensive care/coma unit. Alice loves her patients, especially Frank. Who was in a coma for 2 months and now has Locked-In Syndrome, which means that he can feel, hear and see But he cannot move or speak. Cassie was brought to Kate’s after being involved in a hit and run accident. Cassie is in a coma and is placed in the same room as Frank. Alice finds herself drawn to Cassie, and when she finds out a secret Cassie was keeping Alice is determined to find out who is responsible for the accident.
This is told from 3 POV’s. And I really like how the author did these.
Alice’s POV as she is trying to find out what happened to Cassie.
Cassie’s POV is in the past. It starts from when she married her husband Jack and goes forward up to the accident. So from this POV we get bits and pieces as to what was going on.
Frank’s POV are his thoughts about everything that is going on around him. Especially with what is going on with Cassie. Frank has heard things and seen things. He knows who hurt Cassie, but he cannot tell anyone. Which is just motivating him to try and get better so he can tell and save Cassie. We also get glimpses into his past, when he actually falls asleep and dreams. I liked Frank’s chapters the best. They freaked me out, cause OMG just imagining lying in a hospital bed and not being able to talk or move, but being able to hear everything around you and feel things. *shivers at the thought*
This wasn’t and edge of your seat book. But the tension did pick up right at the end (though it kind of felt rushed to me). The rest of the book was just a nice easy flowing read. I had a few guesses as to what happened, but I didn’t guess correctly. - Very well written story keeping up with and surpassing your expectations. For a first novel it is excellent, wondering what she may have for a second. I'm buying it regardless.
The ending is as expected but I had hoped for something else. Again, this is just me, and offered not as a criticism but just as a thought after finishing it.
All in all, it's a superb introduction for a novel Twitter!
Keep it up, Em!
0.E. Delsar. - I'd like to review the first four pages of the book, as that is as far as I could make it. Somewhere out there are hundreds of nouns waiting for adjectives to make sense of them. They can all be found here in these four pages. It was like reading an eighth grade essay after students had been told to "be more descriptive." No thanks. I'm going to leave "in blowsy clouds like small spirits" with raindrops "stinging . . . like tiny wet kisses" and read a math book--going cold turkey.
- New author for me. I enjoyed the book, the plot was good, it just dragged on a bit. Overall a good read though.
- Loved this book, so absorbed with characters. Surprises all the way to end.
- This is such a cleverly crafted, riveting story. It’s a page turner from early on with a lot of depth worked into the suspense and excitement. Highly recommended!
- This book held my interest from beginning and definitely to the end. Had some nice twists. I had figured out one part of the story but was surprised by many other things. Absolutely recommend this book.
- I didn't care for the book. At first it caught my interest then I seemed to lose interest in it. I love to read mysterious books with turns and twists but I really didn't care for it at all.
