What’s your choice€”to have to walk on stilts the rest of your life, or to always have to roller skate to get around? To have no short-term memory, or no long-term memory? To not eat for two days, or to not sleep for two days? Choice provokes thinking, and thinking is fun. Each card presents a delightful dilemma€”sometimes unusual, always challenging€”to spark conversation or controversy. Change your choice and change your mind. All ages, 101 cards, 3" recyclable plastic screwtop jar.

"This is a big hit for some of the kids I work with in my private practice. It is a great icebreaker and way to build rapport in therapy. I only wish that there were more choices that were pleasant... there tends to be a lot of negatives in there."

Choices in a Jar freespiritpublishingpublishingfreespirit Books Reviews

  • We like to keep these in the car & they are quite fun for the whole family. It's great because my 7yo can read them aloud to everyone & my 3yo can participate as well.
  • I use this as a daily attendance question. It gives the kids something to talk about (I'm a sixth grade teacher) and makes attendance a little less dull. Kids love it and they remind me if I forget to draw a new question. I wish there was an 'expansion pack.'
  • This was a great idea in theory, but unfortunately came a little short in actuality. i bought this for ice-breakers in therapy and while it still will be used for that purpose, it's just not worth the price. The choices are printed on small pieces of paper, and I don't mean a heavy cardstock paper - just paper. For the price, I would expect something more sturdy that could hold up to kids grabbing and passing around and I just can't imagine that will be the case. Some of the "choices" are good, some not so much - but once again, my main issue is the quality for the price and it seems less-than-likely to stand the test of time. I'll be sure to update if I'm wrong - which I hope I am.
  • Love this tool. Out of all of my conversational tools I use, the kids I work with seem to enjoy this one the most. However, I see this as more of a tool to get kids to demonstrate their thinking and rationale capabilities rather than a conversation topic starter.
  • I put them in my car for when my boyfriend and I are arguing so we can change the subject.
  • I am a young therapist that works with elementary and upper elementary kids, and I absolutely love this product! There are all different kinds of questions from lighthearted to more serious, and I have really enjoyed using these questions with my kids! I would recommend using for ages 7 or 8 up to middle school.
    Sample questions include
Would you rather go one day without speaking or one day without hearing?
Would you rather swim in the summer or snowboard in the winter?
Would you rather live in a mansion and never be able to leave or be homeless and be able to roam the world?
  • This is a big hit for some of the kids I work with in my private practice. It is a great icebreaker and way to build rapport in therapy. I only wish that there were more choices that were pleasant... there tends to be a lot of negatives in there.
  • I work as a school psychologist in an elementary school grades 3-5 and the students I see for counseling love this! It really gets you thinking and sparks a conversation about the pros and cons of each scenario.

The only thing is some of the vocabulary used is outdated. For example, one card mentions finding an animal in your "cupboard" which not one kid understood, as that word is rarely used in today's society.

Overall, I would say this product is worth the price. It isn't only good for counseling, I believe this would work in any social setting to spark conversations.
